SUNSETS

This time of year we have some amazing sunsets and I have been trying to find the best way to take the photos. Clearly my shot in an earlier post was not right as the flash went off. I found that automatic setting captured the colours well but clearly no good with the flash. I found the presetting for sunset very disappointing in that it lost the true colours.
So I have been reading and reading and have an incling that I need to play around in Manual, TV and AV settings so here are a few of my better shots. I think this is going to be a very steep learning curve. Rebecca help is definitely needed or any other offers of advice gratefully received.

The new neighbour at the bottom of the garden has been decorating the bedrooms with the lights on. It was really inconsiderate of him as it really spoiled many of the shots to have an illuminated window in the foreground which had to be cut out off the better photos.

We are lucky living on a bit of a hill because we get to see some lovely skies.

  2. As many say, we get better each time. Congratulations to your new skills, photographing better. I thought the neighbor of yours put nice stars in the dark portion at the lower end of the photographs.

  4. I agree with you... the autumn sunsets are so beautiful... I'm not sure if it's the cooler air or the fact that the sun is lower in the sky but they sure are gorgeous! Lovely pics!

  5. Joanne those are beautiful pictures. We are not quite to the top of the hill and don't get to see sunrises and sunsets. But even if we were at the top I guess we still wouldn't because of all the tall fir trees. I really miss seeing them. Guess I'll have to go for early morning or afternoon drives with my camera.

  8. Lovely photo's. Sunsets are quite hard to do, I've been practicing with them too, we get some beautiful skies in South Lincs as you can see for miles and miles with it being so flat.

  9. Inkle no more: sunsets are impossible to capture for us ordinary humans with a camera. I have never managed one yet in ten years. And they are all so tempting when you have uninterrupted views to the West.I have given up and just sit and take it all in and put it on the hard-drive in my head instead.

  11. Sorry, no tips from the point and shoot on auto gal. Your last sunset looked fabulous to me. But not as good as being there, no doubt. :-)

  13. Joanne, From Bloomin' Ferns post: Those photos in my post were not true ferns, but from the family asparagus. Sorry if you misunderstood.

  14. I'm with Frances (on the point and shoot), but I loved the shots. Living in downtown Toronto, with all the tall office buildings around, I don't see much of the sky, never mind the sun sets/rise, thanks for the pictures.

  15. Hi Joanne, these are great photos. I also have a huge learning curve re photography. Blogging is a great incentive to learn but I think in this area I'm a bit remedial. Cheers, catmint
